If you want to be sneaky, you’ve got to be fast!

If you have ever had the pleasure of hanging out in the Sneak Attack Thread on the Etsy Forums, you’ve probably heard us talking about the “cart wars.” We start talking about hockey pads and steel toed boots and armor plated carts. You may be thinking to yourself “What on earth is going on? I thought sneak attackers were the nicest people on Etsy whose goal in life is to make a new seller feel awesome, why are they talking about sneak attacks as if they were violent, bloody conflict?” Well the truth is, we are nice people who want to make a new seller’s day and we aren’t actually at all violent. But when you have 20 or so people all shopping from the same store or two, shopping can get pretty competitive. If you want to be sneaky, you’ve got to be fast.

Here is how it works. It’s 7:00 on sneak attack day. The shops have just been announced on handmademovement.com and you have clicked the links with great excitement. You’ve found the perfect gift for your brother-in-law: knitted salt and pepper shakers decorated with smiling puppies. You put them in your cart, take a moment to smile at your find, and then hit “commit to buy.” But wait! What’s this? An error message! It appears the item in your cart is no longer for sale. Runswithscissors4 has a faster mouse finger than you, so those knitted salt and pepper shakers will be going to her uncle, not your brother-in-law. You grumble for a minute, but then see that the shop also has felted coffee mugs decorated with turkey feathers, which your brother-in-law would also like. With super fast fingers, you cart and checkout, snatching the mugs right out of goodgosh’s cart!

And this, my friends, is what we at Sneak Attack Central call “The Cart Wars.” If you think you can handle it, if you think you are fast enough, then come by the sneak attack thread every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and join the fray. But don’t forget your pads and armor!

If you’d like, you can take one of the two cart wars images from this post and make it your avatar for the day

Sheesh… now I know what happens when I forget to sign on until like 7:30… nothing left for me… I'v only been averaging one purchase per week.

    Thanks for the neat description!

Perfect description. It's also fun to watch folks come back with (virtual) bloody noses and torn clothing from the cart wars. It reminds me of those "bride dashs" – ya know where the brides are racing around the store trying to find their perfect wedding dress?
